When we last met 2-year-old Aacen Huck in July, he was being measured and modifications were being made so he could drive. Tuesday, the University of Mary students showed off their handy work on his new ride.

Aacen Huck is Bismarck's newest driver.

"He's getting the opportunity to do a lot of the things that kids his age are doing right now and it makes me feel very proud as a parent,” said Aacen’s dad Aaron.

He didn't get his car from a dealer, but from the physical therapy and engineering students at the University of Mary as part of a service project. It took a lot of work to customize this car.

"How far we need to place the seat belt so they are not choking and uncomfortable, how much support they needed on the side to make sure they are not tipping over. How far they need to scoot forward to reach the button we adapted. Really just getting an overall sense of who they are and what they need these for,” said third-year physical therapy student Kallee Oxborrow.

Students spent more than 50 hours the past few weeks adapting the car to the specific needs of the child. The vehicle was also installed with remote controls that let Aacen's parents, or sometimes his sister, move and steer.

"It's awesome seeing how happy the kids are with their cars, I know Aacen loves his car. So it's just cool to see that we did such a good thing for these kids,” said sophomore civil engineering student Levi Clagett.
