One of America’s favorite cars recently got some unaccustomed bad news. Honda Accord sales fell 15.8% in February. They’re off 14.7% year to date versus 2017, according to figures from Autodata Corp.

That’s despite near universal acclaim for the all-new 2018 Accord that went on sale last year. The midsize sedan swept the Detroit Free Press and North American Car of the Year awards, and nabbed just about every other major new car honor. It’s roomy, efficient, reliable and loaded with useful safety features.

Despite that, Accord sales are down big time. Vehicle sales overall are off 2.8% so far this year, but the Accord’s market share is down 11.7%. So the typically popular Accord is falling behind the industry as a whole.

At the same time, the car often described as the Accord’s archrival, the Toyota Camry, notched a 12.2% increase in February and is up 13.7% for the year. Like the Accord, the Camry launched an all-new model last year. The new Camry was greeted positively, but unlike the Accord, with little excitement.
